Wow, how can we possibly tell our story for all to know who and what we were, are, and to be… that's not daunting?!? We could try and start from the beginning. I suppose… our story is just an old-fashioned love song. What about a dating anecdote? Online dating is what all the cool kids are doing these digital days. We had each been on and off Match. To be honest, neither of us were looking for the particulars in the other's by-line. Courtney: Widow, four boys; Aric: Never married, no kids. As Aric tells it, Courtney sent the first 'wink'. As Courtney tells it, there must have been some wine and a RomCom movie involved. Well, after some electric-electronic flirtation…. Yeah, Courtney left Match, and then Aric did too. All that said, we quickly picked-up from where we left off the year before, booked our first date, and cautiously held our breath. Everyone has seen the commercial, right? A couple meets for a date, each leaving time and back-up plans for if and when things don't work out — yeah, not a bad plan — that's what we thought too. Breaking all of the rules of a first date, we hit topics from family and sports to politics and religion; ultimately, closing the bar down. We reluctantly left that night thinking it may all have been too good to be true. It happened to be the good start of something true. Then there's just the pure romance of it all. Who could blame me Courtney for being a sucker for a notebook of love letters? That repeated line is also how Aric started to steal my heart. Aric shared an amazing book of love letters between his grandparent's Abe and Gertrude. Those letters captured wonderful moments of their courtship in the 1920's, finding their 'love nest', their early marriage and establishing their new family, and trips where Abe returned to Europe and Poland to visit and care for family. Little did I know that those beautiful letters would later be such a memorable symbol for Aric's marriage proposal to me. As these pages are filling quickly, it seems there is a little about some things and a lot about nothing here. There are not enough words to convey our love for one another! We know the long road that has brought us here, and lovingly acknowledge the complexity our separate lives have given greater meaning and depth to our life and love together now. We are so happy to share our love for one another with all of you, and we look forward to celebrating with everyone at our upcoming wedding!
